It's bounce-back week for former drivers Haas. While Romain Grosjean completed a TPC (test on cars at least two years old) at Mugello with his former team, Mick Schumacher is preparing to test theIndyCar.

The pilot ofEndurance will venture into this American category on October 13. The son of the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will travel across the Atlantic to the Indianapolis circuit.

Towards new horizons for the former Formula 1 driver

In 2021 and 2022, Mick Schumacher drove for Haas, accumulating 44 starts and 12 points, but without scoring any podiums or victories. He then joined Mercedes as a reserve driver in 2023 before leaving the premier class to head towards Endurance. Currently a driver Alpine In the Hypercar category, the German has so far reached the podium three times in WEC (World Endurance Championship). He was once tipped to join the Cadillac program in the same discipline. The 26-year-old driver doesn't seem short of options. He had already made an appearance on the Indianapolis circuit in May 2025, though outside the car, as a simple spectator during the tests.

“I’m really looking forward to my first IndyCar test., declares the former pilot of Formula 1. A huge thank you to the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team for giving me this opportunity. The same goes for driving this car for the first time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a track rich in history where my father once raced. I can't wait to discover its unique features."

Accustomed to Formula 1 and now Hypercars, the native of Vaud will have to readjust to a new car on an unknown circuit. I am very curious to understand the peculiarities and characteristics of this racing car, which is different from the cars I usually drive, yet similar to them. I also remain very interested in the idea of gaining experience in the varied world of motorsport, says the pilot Alpine. It's great to be able to discover this sport and its difficulty, as I've heard a lot about how physically demanding it is. It's no secret that I'm a big fan of open-wheel racing, so this first test in IndyCar will be an unforgettable experience, and I can't wait to drive a car where I can see my wheels."

Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, is also excited about the opportunity. “I’ve followed Mick’s career, as well as his father’s, so I’m really excited to see him behind the wheel of one of our race cars. I think it’s going to be a great day for RLL and for Mick, who will be making his first steps in an IndyCar. He’s obviously got a lot of talent and, knowing that we have a great setup for the IMS road course, it should give him a good starting point.” hopes the American. Jay Frye, president of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, joins his colleague's enthusiasm. : “This is an incredible opportunity for RLL to test an elite talent like Mick and bring together two legendary motorsport families.”

What are the chances of seeing Mick Schumacher at the start of the 2026 season?

With IndyCar teams having additional test days to test rookies, a category that Mick Schumacher would fit into, it's unclear whether the German driver's test could lead to a full-time seat. Rahal Letterman Racing has already confirmed the presence of its three drivers, Graham Rahal, Louis Foster, and Devlin de Francesco, for the upcoming season. The first two are not dependent on a sponsor, and therefore have their places secured. For the Canadian, a change could occur if another wealthy and more talented driver decides to take the plunge and enter IndyCar.

Schumacher likely wouldn't meet the first criterion, and the opportunities for "paid" seats are very limited at the moment. Only Dale Coyne Racing, AJ Foyt Racing, and Juncos Hollinger Racing still have seats available. The second would most likely go to Rinus VeeKay, to compensate for the departure of David Malukas to Penske. Juncos Hollinger is primarily looking for drivers with a budget to support Sting Ray Robb. That leaves the Coyne track, which welcomed a new investor during the offseason and will field reigning Indy NXT champion Dennis Hauger, in partnership with the Andretti team.

For the second seat, Schumacher could face competition from Romain Grosjean, who drove for the team in 2021. The Chicago team boss previously said he wanted to announce his two drivers "before Halloween," so there may only be a month left to wait...

Single-seater less expensive than F1, so less carbon destroyed for Schumi Jr!

It's good for Mick, if he becomes a single-seater driver again, but be careful, Indycar is a dangerous championship ‼️ The ideal would be to return to F1, but if he does good results…… then the doors could open at the latest for 2027 ‼️ But first see the tests at RLL. Fighting Mick ….. 👍. 😎👀🇱🇺
