It's a big clean-up at Team Penske. Following the discovery of unauthorized modifications to a part of the rear crash box of their single-seaters, which led Josef Newgarden and Will Power to start at the back of the pack at the Indy 500, Roger Penske has taken major measures. These simply lead to the departure of the branch president. IndyCar, Tim Cindric, CEO Ron Ruzewski and Managing Director Kyle Moyer.

The three men are paying for the mistakes of the last two years, with the push-to-pass scandal at the start of 2024. Team Penske's cars were able to illegally use their push-to-pass system on the first lap following a restart, even though the regulations state that a full lap must be waited before the system is put into effect.

This weekend, the discovery of a modification to the rear crash box caused a stir in the paddock. The modification, most likely cosmetic, continued to put pressure on Team Penske, whose owner, Roger Penske, also owns the IndyCar championship and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 88-year-old "Captain" explained that the sanctions were self-evident.

"Nothing is more important than the integrity of our sport and our teams. We have experienced organizational missteps over the past two years, and we had to make the necessary changes. I apologize to our fans, our partners, and our organization for letting them down."

Team Penske says further announcements regarding replacements for Cindric, Ruzewski, and Moyer will be made in the coming days. The biggest race of the season is just four days away, and Josef Newgarden is in contention to become the first driver to win the Indianapolis 500 three years in a row.

Heads roll quickly in the United States and "The Captain", with his dual role as owner of IndyCar and the eponymous team, reacted very quickly so as not to be suspected of conflicts of interest beyond the impact on the image of the Penske name.
