As is tradition, the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 isn't held over just one weekend, but rather over almost two full weeks. From Tuesday, May 12th to Friday, May 15th, drivers already had six hours of practice per day, allowing them to fine-tune their cars before the qualifying weekend on Saturday and Sunday. This year, only 33 cars are entered, so all drivers are automatically qualified for the Indy 500, and for some teams, race setup will likely be more of a focus than qualifying.
Once the qualifying weekend is over, another practice session will take place on the Monday before the race, followed by the traditional Carb Day on Friday, May 22. Including the final two hours of practice before the Indy 500, the pit stop competition, the Wienie 500 (a race featuring Oscar Mayer hot dog-shaped vehicles), and live music, it's a real party day for spectators, but also the last opportunity to prepare for the race in conditions typically similar to those encountered on race Sunday. The race itself will take place on May 24, starting at 18:45 p.m. Paris time.
