The French driver lost control in the last corner of the circuit, before ending up in the tire wall. The wearer of number 77 was quite optimistic at the microphone of NBC Sports during the session, but he was ultimately unable to return to the track, thus finishing in 27th position. Grosjean will therefore have to, from 17:10 p.m. this Saturday, count on Free Practice 2 to store data, but the rain is there...

“I’m fine, no worries. Things didn't go as planned! We have to analyze what happened with the car, and I think I can even leave. The left front is damaged, but otherwise fine. The weather doesn't look good for Saturday, but that's how it is, we have to deal with it! »

Palou the fastest

The former pilot of Formula 1 also has to deal with a new teammate this weekend! Nolan Siegel replaces Agustin Canapino, who preferred to withdraw this weekend. The Argentine pilot wants to protect his mental health, after an extremely trying week, following threats received by Theo Pourchaire (Arrow McLaren) on social networks. While he was no longer on the track, Grosjean was able to notice that his young teammate was learning from the reigning champion: “I took a look at Nolan, and I saw he was following Alex Palou, so he's learning from one of the best, that can't be a bad thing! »

The reigning IndyCar champion, who drives for Chip Ganassi Racing, finished the session in first place, just seven hundredths ahead of Colton Herta's Andretti. Santino Ferrucci (Foyt) confirms his good outlook in Detroit, with a promising third position for the rest of the weekend. The Road America circuit is the longest of the season, and also one of the most beautiful in America.
