Road America – First pole position for Louis Foster!

The surprise is complete! A week after being forced to retire in a spectacular crash in St Louis, Louis Foster is having the best day of his motorsport career. The 21-year-old Briton, who is competing in his first season in 2025, IndyCar, took pole position at Road America.

The team driver Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing surprised observers by beating all the timed-trial specialists. This was their first-ever pole position, despite only sitting 24th in the drivers' standings after eight races.

“I had asked my mechanics not to put on the soft tires during Fast 12 because I was very confident about my chances of moving up to Fast 6, explains the 2024 champion of the Indy NXT, the antechamber of the IndyCar (the Fast 6 being the equivalent of the Q3. Editor's note). I wasn't wrong! I can hardly believe it!

The big guns will be right behind him on Sunday. Or even alongside him, as will be the case for the defending champion and championship leader Álex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing), who set the second fastest time, ahead of Kyle Kirkwood (Andretti), the man in form in recent weeks. The other two drivers from the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing clan complete the top six (Christian Lundgaard 2th, Graham Rahal 6th).

All three Penskes are in the top 10 (Scott McLaughlin 4th, Will Power 8th, Josef Newgarden 10th). Disappointment for Pato O'Ward (Arrow) McLaren, 11th) Colton Herta (Andretti, 16th) and especially Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing). The veteran was pushed back to 25th place for having hindered Devlin DeFrancesco (19th) during his flying lap.
