The provision of Romain Grosjean during qualifying for the Grand Prix of St Petersburg (Florida) this Saturday March 9 in IndyCar is a question of perspective. Certainly, the Frenchman, on pole in 2023, did less well (5th time). But it must be remembered that the former pilot of Formula 1 changed teams this winter, moving from the imposing Andretti structure to the more modest Juncos Hollinger Racing outfit!

The team built around Argentinian Agustin Canapino does not usually play at the forefront. In three years of presence in IndyCar, she had never performed so well in testing for the opening round of the season. What Romain Grosjean did at the wheel of the black and green Dallara therefore constitutes a real performance.

“It’s very satisfying, he also declared. Last year, a pole was fantastic, and this year I was hoping we could get into the Fast Six (equivalent to Q3, bringing together the 6 best times. Editor’s note) after free practice, but I wasn't sure. We managed to enter Fast Six.

We didn't have the speed to beat the guys in front, but regardless, I'm very proud of everything that was done. (The engine builder) Chevrolet helped us a lot with the data and on this track. Our team has put in a lot of work since the Sebring winter test, where I wasn't sure we would be in the top 10 in qualifying, but here we are. I am very happy about it. We have a good starting point. »

Between now and the start of the race, set for 17:30 p.m. mainland France time, Romain Grosjean will continue to refine his set-up. “It’s a very, very good qualification. I think we still have work to do, but I think the guys on the team have a very clear idea of what I want to improve, and that's what we're going to try to do. »
