The hybrid in IndyCar, it's not for now. Expected for 2023, the introduction of the new 6l bi-turbo hybrid V2.4 in the Dallara DW12 has been postponed for an additional year due to “ continued challenges in the global supply chain for some hybrid system components »

« We are satisfied with the pace of technical development of the 6l twin-turbo V2.4 which we are preparing for the future of competition, rejoices IndyCar president Jay Frye despite the cumulative delay. The progress made by our team and our partners is encouraging but an immediate decision had to be made to ensure we are ready for the 2023 season"

With the arrival of the new hybrid power unit pushed back to the 2024 campaign, IndyCar teams will continue to use the 6l twin-turbo V2.2s supplied by Chevrolet and Honda in 2023 before abandoning them for good.

While waiting for 2024, IndyCar is already diving into the in-depth work with the hybrid system. The new 6l twin-turbo V2.4 will be tested for the first time on track on March 30 and 31 at Sebring before development continues throughout 2022.
