IndyCar – The chances of the six title contenders

The organizers of theIndyCar did their best to maintain the suspense until the last race of the season. Six drivers will compete for the title at the Sonoma GP (California) where double points will be awarded: Juan Pablo Montoya (Team Penske), Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing), Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing), Will Power (Team Penske ), Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) and Josef Newgarden (CFH Racing).

The points system at the Sonoma GP will reward the winner of the race with 100 points. The first 25 will be rewarded. A bonus point will be offered to each driver who has led at least one lap. Two units will reward the greatest leader of the event.

With 34 points ahead of his closest pursuer, Juan Pablo Montoya will be assured of the title if he finishes at least 3rd.

Graham rahal, the Colombian's direct rival, will have to win the race or hope that Montoya does not do better than 4th. The American will have to finish in the top 8 anyway to have a chance of being crowned, regardless of the Penske driver's result.

Scott Dixon will win a 4th coronation if he wins the race without Montoya doing better than 7th.

Will Power, the pole sitter of the Sonoma GP, must win the race hoping that Montoya does not do better than 11th.

Helio Castroneves will have to win the race while hoping that Montoya does not do better than 18th.

It is more complicated for Joseph Newgarden which is still 87 points behind the Championship leader. The CFH Racing driver's hopes rest on the results of all the other contenders.

The Sonoma GP will be followed live on Canal+ Sport this evening from 22:55 p.m.
