Martinez power four
Marcos Martinez (Pons Racing) scored his fourth victory of the season on Saturday at Silverstone. The Spaniard won ahead of Malaysian Fairuz Fauzy (Mofaz Fortec Motorsport) and Briton Oliver Turvey (Carlin Motorsport).
The reversed grid at the start saw Bertrand Baguette (International Draco Racing) start on pole but the Belgian was immediately overtaken by Martinez. Behind, Baguette holds on and leads ahead of Daniil Move (P1 Motorsport) and Fairuz Fauzy.
If the leading group remains very compact, the first movements arrive when Move passes through the grass. He then fell to 8th place. The fight in front continues and Fauzy, who inherited third place, is becoming more and more pressing behind Baguette. However, it was only in the 19th round that the Malaysian attacked. Baguette delays his braking as much as possible to resist him but makes an excursion off the track. He comes out sixth, just ahead of Jaime Alguersuari who immediately overtakes him. Ten minutes from the finish, Marcos Martinez leads the debates ahead of Fauzy, Turvey, Walker, Hartley, Alguersuari, Baguette, Pic and Molina.
The leader continues alone but suffers at the end of the race, regularly locking his wheels when braking. Fairuz Fauzy gets closer but fails to overtake the Spaniard. Martinez therefore won for the fourth time this season and consolidated his leadership position. Fauzy and Turvey complete the podium. “ The middle of the race was calm, then it was necessary to force it at the end of the race with the return of Fairuz Fauzy. It's a good operation in the Championship " said Martinez.
