From December 10th to 12th, three days of testing will take place at Suzuka as part of the Super Formula end-of-year tests. This year, the program could be particularly closely followed given the successive announcements made in recent weeks. Alongside drivers such as Kalle Rovanperä (two-time World Rally Champion) and Luke Browning (driver of Formula 2 under the leadership of Williams), or even Charlie Wurz (pilot of F3 (who is signed with Trident this year), Briton Freddie Slater will also be taking part.

Despite his recognized talent, Freddie Slater, not yet part of any racing academy, can boast of having been successively crowned Italian F4 champion, breaking the previous points record held by Kimi Antonelli. This year, by winning the FRECA after a controlled final at Monza, the Prema driver also surpassed the record set by Rafael Câmara (now F3 champion) a year earlier. Having only raced in Formula 3 as a one-off with AIX Racing and then Hitech in Bahrain and Spa-Francorchamps, the young Briton faces a significant new challenge by competing in a Super Formula car, which is even more competitive than Formula 2 in terms of pure performance.

Slater facing the clock, and certain benchmarks

Accustomed to challenges that allow him to progress, Freddie Slater notably chose to compete in the FRMEC (Formula Regional Middle East) during the winter of 2025 before embarking on his FRECA season. Next year, before moving up to Trident's F3 car, a favorite in this championship, he will complete his winter preparation in the FROC (Formula Regional Oceania).

An interesting side note is that Kalle Rovanperä is also competing in both these Super Formula tests and the Oceania Regional Formula series before fully launching his Super Formula season. The Finn has never completed a season in... car will be able to see his performances directly compared to those of one of the most highly regarded drivers of his generation, even though he is still competing in Formula 3. The presence of Luke Browning, who is fighting for the Formula 2 title this year, will also be a good indicator for the other drivers.

While the Audi academy could be a medium-term destination for Freddie Slater, strong performances in these various tests and series could allow him to redeem himself after his Macau disappointment. Leading and seemingly destined for victory, the Briton ultimately made a mistake in the final laps, leading to his retirement from this legendary race. Will this give him an even stronger chance to bounce back next week?
