In 2023, the World Cup Formula 3 of the FIA made its grand return to the Macau GP after four years of absence, for the 70th edition of the legendary Asian event. A race which was a great success, with many drivers there and a great spectacle on the track. However, for the next edition which will take place from November 14 to 17, 2024, the FIA will make a major change: no more Formula 3 (and Formula 4, which competed in its own race in parallel), now in favor of Regional Formula.
The Formula Regional cars will make their debut in Macau, in the newly named “FIA Formula Regional World Cup”, on the famous Guia circuit. The governing body indicates that the choice to move to the Regional Formula and abandon the Formula 3 will “making the event even more accessible than ever, opening it up to a wide range of drivers competing at a regional level. »

“The arrival of Formula Regional cars in Macau for the FIA World Cup is a natural consequence of the changing landscape of the car junior over the last two years and constitutes a logical step in the pyramid, explains François Sicard, FIA director of strategy and operations for single-seaters. The Macau Formula 3 race has built a legendary reputation for bringing together the best junior drivers from national series from around the world on what is the toughest street circuit in the world. The move to Formula Regional reignites this spirit and provides an optimal long-term solution for FIA single-seater competition in Macau. »
There are currently five different FIA-certified Formula Regional series around the world (Americas, Europe, Japan, Middle East and Oceania) and there will be approximately 92 Formula Regional drivers racing around the world in 2024. Formula Regionale will headline the 71st edition of the Macau Grand Prix, alongside the GT3 cars which will also take part in the FIA GT World Cup.
