Before the start of the final weekend of racing in Formula Regional Oceania, the question remained: who would manage to outshine the other, Freddie Slater or Ugo Ugochukwu? Ultimately, it was the American, a former academy member, who prevailed. McLaren, managed his advantage well to finish the winter season ahead of his British rival. Seventh and ninth in the last two races held overnight (French time), the American giant mainly benefited from his victory the previous day to distance himself from his pursuer, and thus only had to manage his lead. Having been far behind last year, in his first season of F3Ugo Ugochukwu has been brimming with confidence since New Zealand, and will certainly be aiming for the title this season with the Campos team.

Accustomed to making numerous overtakes, Freddie Slater failed to make the breakthrough he had hoped for this weekend. Winner of Race 1 – the one postponed last week – the Briton then experienced the same performance issues he had encountered in the previous qualifying rounds. Unable to find his rhythm, he remained stuck behind his rivals for much of the race and ultimately paid the price. He finished 16 points behind the champion.

Finally, Kenato Le and Zack Scoular were the two drivers to take the win in these last two New Zealand rounds of the season. Overall, the established order held true, with drivers such as James Wharton and Jin Nakamura also securing podium finishes. A solid preparation for Formula 3 for many of them, this short season comes to a close, and without Kalle Rovanperä, who was absent this weekend due to illness. Forced to miss this final opportunity to prepare, the Finn will now have to turn his attention to Super Formula, a series he would certainly have liked to conclude before moving on to the next.

So, a trip to the Antipodes that ultimately proved inconclusive for the new Audi Academy driver, Freddie Slater.

@Mathieu: "Seventh and ninth of the last two races took place last night"... you need to get some sleep before writing the report!
