It's not all about exhibitions at Rétromobile, as spectators, and especially buyers, were able to attend the traditional auction of legendary models from the history of the automobile. And this year, some of them sold for a fortune, like this Ferrari 250 LM, but not just any.
After the €51 of the Mercedes-Benz W 196 R 'Stromlinienwagen' A few days ago, another old racing car has reached crazy sums. Because this Ferrari 250 LM was auctioned for an amount of 31 million euros (34,88 million with fees) this Wednesday, February 5 by the house RM Sotheby's. But what is so special about this model?
Unlike another 250 LM berlinetta sold for €15 in July 771 by Artcurial, the one from Rétromobile stands out with a historic track record since it won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1965, then entered by the American private NART team and with the Masten Gregory-Jochen Rindt duo at the controls. A symbolic date since it was the Scuderia's last success in La Sarthe before Ford's domination (1966-1969) and especially the last before 2023 and the return of the Prancing Horse to Le Mans with the 499P.

The auction opened at 14 million euros for a total of 13 higher bids, the last of which was 31 million from its new owner. Note that this Ferrari 250 LM was made available by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, the same one that was already behind the sale of the Mercedes-Benz W 196 R 'Stromlinienwagen' on February 1st.
