Since 2021, the Hypercar category has been offering breathtaking moments to the public of 24 Hours of Le MansThis year again, the race will be fiercely contested, with eight manufacturers vying for overall victory, fielding a total of 18 prototypes. All the teams can rely on the experience of their drivers. No fewer than 17 drivers have already won the Le Mans classic in the Hypercar class alone. A remarkable fact: all the drivers Classic Ferrari for sale AF Corse triumphed in Sarthe, nine elements all ready to repeat, from Robert Kubica to Antonio Fuoco via Antonio Giovinazzi.
Genesis makes its grand debut at Le Mans
This year sees the arrival of a new manufacturer on the grid: Genesis, the South Korean firm, will make a splash with the GMR-001 Hypercar. The team has recruited three-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner André Lotterer, a well-known name among endurance racing fans. He will be joined by Luis Felipe Derani and Mathys Jaubert in the #17, while the trio of Mathieu Jaminet, Paul-Loup Chatin, and Daniel Juncadella will drive the sister car, the #19. With 41 starts across six drivers, Genesis clearly has a strong chance.
A very competitive LMP2 category
You have to go back to the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans to find a gap of more than a lap between the LMP2 winner and second place. This statistic, which reflects the level of competition in the category, could well be confirmed in 2026 given the field. Inter Europol Competition shouldn't be underestimated after their resounding victory last year. But Kévin Estre, who took the Hypercar pole position two years ago, will be aiming for the top step of the podium with TDS Racing. Also noteworthy is the presence of Romain Dumas, a two-time winner of the 24 Hours in 2010 and 2016, who is making his comeback after a three-year absence, this time with his own team, RD Limited.
Names well known to the public
On the grid, many surnames evoke memories. Indeed, in 2026, no fewer than seven entrants have a father who was a former driver of Formula 1. Kevin Magnussen (BMW M Team WRT), son of Jan, Jules Gounon (Alpine Endurance Team), son of Jean-Marc, Enzo Trulli (Algarve Pro Racing), son of Jarno, Louis Delétraz (AO by TF), son of Jean-Denis, Giuliano Alesi (Team Qatar by Iron Lynx), son of Jean, Lorenzo Patrese (Kessel Racing), son of Riccardo, and Eduardo Barrichello (Heart of Racing Team), son of Rubens, will be competing. It's worth noting that most of the names mentioned above have also been seen at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
25 cars entered in LMGT3
The LMGT3 category is of particular importance. In 2026, no fewer than 25 cars representing nine manufacturers are vying for a place on the world's biggest stage. This class is notably marked by the presence of the winner of the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans. Jose Maria Lopez on the Lexus RC F LMGT3 #87 Akkodis ASP Team. At the end of the 6 Hours of Imola, three different manufacturers were on the podium, which says a lot about the level of competition. Porsche has won the last two editions of the double-round-the-clock race in LMGT3, but once again, the race should hold some nice surprises.
Women in the spotlight
Two women will be at the start of the 94th edition. Dorian PinFirst, in LMP2, with the Duqueine Team. "Pocket Rocket", current development driver for Mercedes Benz-AMG in Formula 1 will certainly be one of the elements to watch. In LMGT3, Lilou Wadoux continues her adventure on the Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo by Richard Mille AF Corse. Furthermore, Sarah Bovy, former Iron Dames competitor, is the first woman to be named Grand Marshal of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. She has made her mark on the world of endurance racing with her speed and magnificent victories in ELMS and WECbut also thanks to her involvement in the cause of women in motorsports.
