Congratulations Marco. P13, do you consider this first result for Aston Martin as a success?
Yes, definitely! That was the first box to tick, finishing the race, that's what we had to achieve. Of course, we would have liked a better result, but the most important thing is that we finished with both cars without encountering any major problems. I don't think either car went through the garage, they drove the whole way, even if it wasn't very fast. I have to say I'm quite proud of the team. It was our first Le Mans, and we managed to finish. I really didn't expect that, to be honest.
This week, you told me that this circuit would be better suited to your car. Was that true?
Yes, I would say it was better for our car here. But once we got into the race, some of the cars that had been in the category for longer performed better. I think we were where we were, just like in qualifying. We didn't manage to make a step forward like some teams did in the race. So no, there wasn't much more we could have done.
Have you identified any areas for improvement for the future thanks to this first 24-hour race?
The results are clearly positive, but we still have work to do for the future, of course. No one in our program expected to come here to win this year, that's obvious. But going forward, that's clearly our goal. So we have to keep working in that direction so that one day, we can come here to win. That's the most important thing.
Is energy management during the race the most complicated element to manage on board the Valkyrie?
No, that's also a success. We were able to manage when we needed to. Most of the time, we were driving almost flat out, just to gauge our pace. Obviously, if you're not fighting for position, you can also afford to consume a little more.
Would a livelier race have helped you?
No, it wasn't. It was a very boring race, to be honest. It was clean from start to finish... so yes, a bit monotonous, not many opportunities.
