It's like Christmas came early for motorsport enthusiasts. June means... 24 Hours of Le MansBut the 94th edition of the Le Mans race begins well before the race week, with the first official tests scheduled from Sunday, June 7th for Test Day.
The season will kick off with the traditional technical and administrative checks, more commonly known as "Scrutineering." The first day will take place on Friday, June 5th, at Place de la République, in the heart of Le Mans. This will be an opportunity for fans to get up close to the cars entered and meet the drivers before the start of the competition. For the teams, this check is mandatory to verify the conformity of their cars and validate their homologation. Without it, they cannot take to the track.
Even more city driving
Saturday will be dedicated to the second day of scrutineering, allowing the last crews to undergo inspection. Once this stage is complete, it's time for the traditional city-center practice session. Introduced in 2023, this event will see 19 cars from the Hypercar, LMP2, and LMGT3 categories take to the streets of Le Mans on a specially prepared circuit. New this year: the cars will complete three laps of the course, compared to two in previous years.
These two events, which officially kick off the big week of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, are free for the public.
Finally, Sunday, June 7th will mark the first collective test session of the week with Test Day. The 62 cars entered will have two three-hour sessions, from 10:00 AM to 13:00 PM and then from 15:30 PM to 18:30 PM. This will also be an opportunity for the rookies to validate their participation by completing the ten mandatory laps, five of which will be timed, as required by the regulations.
