Pit Stop Challenge, 24 Hours of Le Mans 2026

The Hypercar, LMP2 and LMGT3 teams will battle it out in the pit lane to claim the first trophy of the 94th edition, cheered on by the public.

In the space of five years, this event has become an unmissable first meeting for the stables participating in the 24 Hours of Le MansThe Pit-Stop Challenge highlights the behind-the-scenes work done by mechanics. EnduranceOn Tuesday, June 9th, from 2:00 PM to 3:15 PM in the pit lane, all teams will participate in a competition to reward the fastest squad to change four tires. What might seem like a game is taken very seriously by the mechanics.

“We too have the right to our podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It’s a great idea and we are very proud to be part of it.” “Changing tires is the result of intensive training,” explained Vivien Moricet, a mechanic at IDEC Sport in 2025. “Starting in winter, the mechanics repeat the movements – several times a week, even daily – to ingrain essential reflexes. Every fraction of a second gained in the pit lane can make a difference in the race, which is why these training sessions aim to make these interventions second nature.”

The mechanics, who have to carry 22 kg wheels and handle 6 kg pneumatic guns, can even benefit from physical training with a sports coach. Like the drivers, they are constantly striving for performance. Serenity, speed, and methodology guide their every move, in a perpetual quest for efficiency against the clock. In 2025, Peugeot had beaten Classic Ferrari for sale with a time of 8.830 seconds in Hypercar, while AF Corse had won the prize in LMP2 (10.440 seconds). Manthey-Racing distinguished itself in LMGT3 (9.530 seconds).
