07h00 - While we went from 7:15 a.m. to 7:10 a.m. for rain, here is an update on the ranking

06:49 – 💬 First reaction at the start of the day from a pilot. This is Yifei Ye, pilot of the Classic Ferrari for sale No. 83 in Hypercar and which celebrates its 24th anniversary this Sunday. “ It was a long night. I didn't expect to see daybreak when I got in the car. It was a bit crazy. It's very special to be able to celebrate your birthday on the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit. Everything was going very well during the evening, until the early hours of that night (3:00). We are fighting to try to come back. The team is working hard to achieve this in any case. What is certain is that it is not every day that you can celebrate your birthday here. It's awesome. (At night) You can quickly be blinded, especially when you are near another car and especially at night. You have to drive with your instinct. On the one hand, I was happy when the race was neutralized under Safety Car because it was becoming difficult but on the other hand I didn't want to drive for 3 hours at 60 km/h. 05:34 – 🌧 Small rain update: race management announces a move from class 2 to 3, and therefore an increase in the rain level, shortly after 6:15 a.m. and which will end at 7:00 a.m.

04:49 – 🌧 A possible restart of the race has not been mentioned for the moment, while the drivers continue the laps behind the Safety Car

04:27 – 🌧 This is the situation at present. We might as well tell you that the race will not be restarted soon...

04:20 – 🌧 The rain has been falling very hard for a few minutes and everything suggests that the Safety Car will continue for a long time...

04:07 – 🌧 The race direction changed its weather message from “end of rain at 4:00 a.m.” to “end of rain at 6:00 a.m.”. Hoping that this doesn't mean that the Safety Car will last until that time...

04:00 p.m. – 🟢 The halfway mark is reached and the rain is seriously intensifying above the track while the Safety Car procedure is still in progress, and only in the first of its four phases.

03h54 - Everyone logically takes the opportunity to stop, a few moments before the start of the race.

03:45 – 💥 Cadillac No. 311 driven by Aitken leaves the track as the rain intensifies. If the Briton managed to quickly get going again, the race management sent the Safety Car onto the track. Very surprising on the part of the race management since there does not seem to be any reason to deploy a safety car procedure.

03h34 - 🌧 The rain appears to be intensifying in the Indianapolis area. Finally some animation in a race that has been somewhat dull in recent hours? For the moment, panic does not seem to be affecting the teams in the pit lane

03h15 - At the head of the race we don't hesitate and immediately dive into the pit lane. This is particularly the case for the first three overall. However, no change to note with the Toyota No. 8 which comes out in the lead, now driven by Hartley, in front of the Porsche No. 6, on which Estre is located, and Toyota No. 7 of which López takes care of it now.

03:13 p.m. – 🟡 Full Course Yellow while race direction indicates class 1 to 2 rain lasting 20 minutes. At the wheel of the Crowdstrike Racing by APR No. 45, Braun got out of his car. It smells of abandonment.

03:09 – 💥 A few incidents to highlight at the start of the 11th hour of the LMP2 race, firstly the No. 07 Oreca 14 of AO by TF driven by Quinn which spent a moment in the gravel before leaving. 7th in the category, she lost a position while she slowly started again. The Crowdstrike Racing by APR N°45 lost its left rear wheel and stopped a few hundred meters after the second Mulsanne chicane.

03:00 p.m. – 🟢 Fixed positions in mind. A time returned to less than 3 seconds of Buemi in the No. 8 Toyota leading the general standings, Lotterer (No. 6 Porsche) lost ground in the last 15 minutes. The gap gradually grew and almost 20 seconds separated the first two cars in Hypercar. A fairly quiet last hour of racing for the leader Varrone (AF Corse No. 183). The Argentinian didn't have too many problems in the last few minutes and was one lap ahead at the last score over United's No. 07 Oreca 22 with the same number of stops (16). In LMGT3, the McLaren No. 59 remains in charge.

02:44 – 💥 Bad day for Proton's No. 77 Ford Mustang. While it was already 45 laps behind the No. 91 Porsche at the head of LMGT3, the American mount was this time stuck in the gravel in the Esses de la Forêt after contact with the No. 07 Oreca 24 from Nielsen who was trying to overtake her. Robichon was at the wheel when he left the track. Race to forget…

02:21 – 🌧 Little weather update. For the moment, everything is calm in Sarthe but be careful, rain is forecast around 5:00 a.m. this Sunday morning. Will there be a surprise?

02:00 p.m. – 🟢 At 2 hours from the halfway point, the Toyota No. 8 is still leading the debates but the Porsche No. 6, now driven by Lotterer, has made up a good part of its deficit. Passed under the 10 second mark in the pit stop game, the German machine will try to put pressure on the Japanese. In LMP2, it was the AF Corse No. 183 which started the 10th hour of racing at the front. The Argentinian Varrone has a lead of 20 seconds over the Nielsen No. 24, which recently passed through the pits. In LMGT3, the No. 91 Porsche clings to 1st place ahead of the No. 78 Lexus, a real surprise in this first part of the race.

01h51 - The leading cars take advantage of the slow zone to stop. This is the case of the Toyota No. 8 and the Porsche No. 6. 01:46 – 💥 Contact between the No. 155 Ferrari and the No. 59 McLaren in LMGT3. In the struggle, Jordan and Saucy were unable to avoid the collision and the first city finished its race in the gravel at the exit of the first Hunaudières chicane

01h43 - 💬 Statement from Bruno Famin, director ofAlpine Motorsports, after the double abandonment of the French team: “We knew that during this first participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans – only the fourth race for the A424 – we were likely to face certain problems. It's part of the learning process, but it doesn't take away our disappointment. We will analyze the reasons for this mechanical problem to come back stronger next year. Our car showed good pace throughout the week, so we have a solid foundation that we will improve on in the future. 01h38 - Passage to the pits for the N°5 Porsche which continued to fall in the standings after the restart. Remaining on slick, the German leaves in 11th place overall. Makowiecki gave his place to Christensen who started again on slick as the track dried out. 01:13 – ❌ Team WRT confirms the retirement of the No. 46 after Al Harthy's exit. End of the first adventure of Rossi in Sarthe. The Italian will still have shown good things on his debut.

01h08 - Activity at the head of the general where the leading cars all made stops. At Toyota, Buemi took Hirakawa's place in the No. 8 and managed to maintain the lead over Laurens Vanthoor, still at the wheel of the No. 6 Porsche. The German carried out a longer refueling while Kobayashi installed on the Toyota No. 7. Status quo in the lead with a trio which is held within 20 seconds now. 00:56 p.m. – ⚠️ No cleaning for Porsches No. 12 and No. 4 under investigation for a few minutes. Drive-through for non-compliance with slow zone procedures. They are currently in 10th and 17th positions respectively.

00:48 – 🔍 Some cars under investigation for non-compliance with slow zone procedures including two Porsches, No. 12 and No. 4, currently 10th and 17th in the general classification

00h42 - 💥 Bad news for the clan of the BMW M4 LMGT3 No. 46. Al Harthy made a mistake in the Esses de la Forêt where a Slow Zone was triggered. The marshals are already intervening on this even though the car does not seem very damaged and therefore able to restart.

00h39 - 👏 A little break off the track. Moment of union at Alpine where the whole team gathered to greet each other after this unfortunate double abandonment.

00h32 - ⚠️ Kubica finally dives into the pit lane to serve his penalty. 30 seconds of Stop & Go as a reminder. It is Kyrakawa in the No. 8 Toyota who takes control of this 92nd edition ahead of the No. 6 Porsche driven by Laurens Vanthoor. 24 seconds separate the two men currently.

00:26 – 🔥 Duequeine's Oreca 07 No. 30 stopped at the first Mulsanne chicane with a fire breaking out. Simmenauer quickly descended while a Slowzone was notified in the sector in question.

00h20 - ⚠️ The race management's decision has fallen for Kubica's AF Corse N°83. A 30-second Stop & Go for the Pole, found guilty of the incident with Dries Vanthoor on the No. 15 BMW.

00:18 – 🆙 Unsurprisingly, Kubica easily got the better of Makowiecki who continued on the track. At the front, the Pole already has a lead of more than 5 seconds. A gap which will increase considerably over the course of the tour given the differential. In LMGT3, the No. 91 Porsche regained the lead.

00h14 - On rain tires, Kubica, on the No. 83 Ferrari, is gaining seconds. The Pole has just overtaken the No. 311 Cadillac and is now attacking Makowiecki in the No. 5 Porsche which is on slicks! 30 seconds apart

00h10 - Everyone dives into the pit lane to put on the rain tires! The No. 5 Porsche, the No. 311 Cadillac, and the No. 4 Porsche remain on the track. It is the N°5 which is temporarily in the lead while the AF Corse N°83 came out first among the group to have stopped.

00:08 p.m. – 🟢 The Safety Car disappeared at the end of this 115th lap of the race while the rain was still present above the circuit. No trouble to report yet!

00h04 - The pass has been completed, announces the race management while the BMW No. 15 is being mounted on the crane. The fourth and final stage should soon be initiated, marking the end of the neutralization period.

00h00 - The Safety Car is still current at 00:00. The race should start again in a few minutes.

23h50 - BMW confirms that Dries Vanthoor is fine after his accident. The Belgian only suffers from headaches and disorientation.

23h48 - 💬 Philippe Sinault (Alpine): « The disappointment is really great because until then, we had had some problems but not this early in any case. And the first three races had rather suggested that the subject of reliability was under control. In any case, it was not the main subject, even if we feared the 24-hour test since it is the field test which prevails. No matter how much we simulate the passage to the bench, the reality of the facts is the race. »

23h47 - Shortly after the 6-hour mark, Jean-Marc Finot, director of Stellantis Motorsport, took a first stage update at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

23h38 - 🌧️ We are progressing to stage 2/4 of the Safety Car as the rain returns!

23h29 - ❌ Another retirement, in LM P2 this time with the No. 9 Proton-Iron Lynx.

23:27 p.m. – 💬 Yifei Ye (Ferrari AF Corse n°83), speaking to La Chaîne l’Équipe: « The race went well until the accident, we had a good lead over the second place finisher. I followed the onboard camera, and from what I saw, the BMW in front of us was a lap behind. He did not respect the blue flags, he cut the chicanes between Tertre Rouge and Mulsanne twice, without letting us pass. I can't comment too much on the accident because I wasn't in the car, but the lack of respect between a car that is one lap away is not acceptable. We're leading the race, if you see a blue flag and we're behind, the logical thing to do is let us pass. Cutting the chicanes twice to stay in front, without giving up position, for me that is not correct. I'm not thinking about a possible penalty yet, I'm sure the stewards will make the right decision. 23h09 - ❌ BMW confirms the retirement of the #15 BMW after the accident with Robert Kubica.

23h05 - The classification after seven hours of racing while the event is still under Safety Car:

22h59 - COOL Racing inherited the lead in the LM P2 category with Malthe Jakobsen in the #37.

22h56 - 💬 Sébastien Buemi (Toyota) on his excellent first stint: “ It was not easy. We decided to start with soft tires because they have more grip, which is better in these conditions. This helped us gain a few positions. When the rain came we decided to switch to wet tires, but the rain stopped and we had to switch back to slicks. Ferrari didn't change the tires so we lost a bit of time, but it's a long race and we worked hard to get back into the fight. We are focused on our race and not making any mistakes because things can change very quickly in this race. »

22h54 - Vector Sport stops in the pits under Safety Car… and finds itself blocked at the exit by the red light. The British team led the LM P2 and finds itself fourth.

22h50 - ▶️ The accident between Dries Vanthoor and Robert Kubica in video:

22h44 - The race ended short for Alpine at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a double retirement at nightfall. Not the expected result for the A arrow, which has already made an appointment for 2025.

22h09 - 🟡 Claudio Schiavoni makes a mistake at the exit of the second chicane and sends Iron Lynx's #60 Lamborghini into the wall. Full Course Yellow.

22h07 - A spin for John Falb (Duqueine n°30) then Lorenzo Fluxa (COOL Racing n°37) in conditions made tricky by the return of the rain.

22h01 - Classification point after six hours of racing and the double abandonment of Alpine :

21h56 - The leading #83 Ferrari returns to the pits! Robert Kubica takes the lead, while it is raining from Mulsanne to the Porsche corners, and also on the pit straight. The Polish guy

21h55 - The No. 2 Cadlilac returns to the pits to put on rain tires! The #6 Porsche and the #12 JOTA Porsche also pass through the pit lane.

21h53 - The marshals report heavy rain at the entrance to the Porsche corners! Will the teams once again have to decide whether to switch to rain tires or not?

21h52 - The rain has arrived near Arnage! The #50 Ferrari returns to the pits at this precise moment, but seems to leave on slicks.

A lot of cars didn't pit because it wasn't really raining - it was like straight, turn, turn - but it wasn't wet enough to take advantage of the Rain tires and we lost contact with the lead car. There is a lot of time left, so we will continue to fight. »

20h29 - The leading Ferrari, #83, stops in the pits, Yifei Ye takes the wheel! The #5 Porsche also passes through the pitlane.

20h27 - Miguel Molina returns to the pit lane with the #50 Ferrari.

20h26 - Jose Maria Lopez (Toyota no. 7) took sixth place thanks to a magnificent maneuver on Callum Ilott (Porsche JOTA no. 12), from the outside at the entrance to Indianapolis.

20h23 - There are a few drops of rain at the Esses de la Forêt, but the sun is back on the majority of the Le Mans circuit.

20h16 - The cars in eighth and ninth position, the #4 Penske Porsche and the #38 JOTA, once again pass through the pitlane. The rear of Nick Tandy's No. 4 is replaced.

20h10 - 4 HOURS OF RACING

In Hypercar, AF Corse's private Ferrari 499P continues to lead the debates. Ferrari even occupies the first 2 places thanks to Miguel Molina, 2nd. Using an offbeat strategy, the Toyotas are coming back and fighting against the Porsches to occupy the top 5.

In LM P2, Vector Sport remains in the lead with a half-minute margin over Cool Racing, which has relaunched thanks to Ritomo Miyata. Nielsen Racing climbs onto the virtual podium for the first time with 3rd place.

In GT3, ex-biker Valentino Rossi took the lead following the work of his two teammates Maxime Martin and Ahmad Al-Harthy at the start of the race. The gaps are small with the Ferraris and Porsches.

 

20h03 - ⚠️ Drive-through for the No. 4 Porsche of Nick Tandy then in 4th place! The Briton did not respect the Full Course Yellow procedure! Same sanction for the blue Ford Mustang n°77, which unfortunately hit the wall at Indianapolis, and which returned to the pits in slow motion.

19h52 - ⚠️  Drive-through penalty for the United Autosports No. 22 of American rookie Nolan Siegel! The Oreca 07 was 3rd in LM P2 but was found guilty of a collision with the Oreca 07 of DKR Engineering at the Ford chicane.

↗️ Miguel Molina (Ferrari) takes 5th place from Matt Campbell (Porsche).

19h50 - Splash and dash for Robert Shwartzman and the yellow #83 Ferrari of the AF Corse team. The Ferrari refuels and leaves without changing its soft tires. And comes out… still in the lead, with 3 seconds ahead of the No. 8 Toyota of Brendon Hartley.

19h46 - “The Doctor” Valentino Rossi finally takes his seat in the No. 4 BMW M3 GT46! The legend of MotoGP 2nd spring of the GT3.

19h40 - Antonio Fuoco leaves his place to Miguel Molina in the #50 Ferrari.

19:32 p.m. – ✅ Antonio Fuoco (Ferrari no. 50) climbs to 2nd place after overtaking the No. 963 Porsche 5 of Michael Christensen!

19:27 p.m. – 🛠  Clément Novalak's No. 07 Oreca 34 returns to the pits on three wheels! The Frenchman drove without his left front wheel during the last sector, and lost precious time!

19:25 p.m. – ⚠️ Full Course Yellow is deployed! The entire circuit is neutralized and the cars must drive slowly. We do not yet know the reason for this neutralization.

19:20 p.m. – ⚠️ Another drive-through for Peugeot! This time, it’s #93 that is targeted! That of Mikkel Jensen, who was 15th. The Dane is guilty of an incident with the McLaren 720S GT3 of Nico Pino (United Autosports No. 95).

19h13 - Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, gives an update on his team's Bérézina in Hypercar: “It's a shame that we are already in difficulty after three hours with our two Hypercars. It's obviously not the best start to the race, but the race is still long, we are back on track and we will try to catch up. In GT3, we are well placed with the #4 BMW M3 GT46 in P2 for the moment. 19h05 - In LM P2, the defending team, Inter Europol Competition, is leading the way ahead of the English team Vector Sport. Cool Racing is in 3rd place. The Pro-Am subcategory is led by AF Corse. In the leading pack at the start of the race, Panis Racing lost ground by changing drivers with Rodrigo Sales.

In Hypercar, the advantage still goes to Ferrari with the #50. Porsche is 2nd with #5. The positions are somewhat frozen because the differences occurred during a downpour a little over an hour ago. The cars that chose to stay on the track on slick tires are rewarded, unlike the cars that chose rain tires, which lost time.

18h35 - ⚠️ Drive-through penalty in the pits for the Peugeot n°94 of Loïc Duval, who did not respect the slow zone procedure! The Frenchman is currently dropped to 17th place. Otherwise, Phil Hanson (Porsche JOTA no. 38) overtook Sébastien Buemi (Toyota no. 8) for 5th place.

18h30 - Let's highlight the 1st place in GT3 of French rookie Esteban Masson! The Akkodis-ASP team's Lexus is in excellent shape even though it had to change drivers this week following the transfer of José Maria Lopez to the No. 7 Toyota following the injury of Mike conway. 17:52 PM. – Big battle at the head of the race between the #50 Ferrari and the #83 AF Corse! Robert Kubica defends his position against Nicklas Nielsen, despite better re-acceleration of the factory Hypercar at the exit of Mulsanne!

17:49 PM. – ⚠️ Yellow flag in two different places! The #54 Vista AF Corse Ferrari hit the #47 COOL Racing at the Porsche corners, while a Corvette was stopped at the side of the track!

17:46 PM. – Finally, André Lotterer stops in the pits to change to rain tires… but not the two Ferraris following him! The AF Corse n°83 of Robert Kubica therefore regains the lead, ahead of the n°50.

17:45 PM. – The #6 Porsche is now in the lead, but must fight for survival in the rain with slick tires.

17:42 PM. - Immediate reaction from Ferrari who stops the leading #51 to put on rain tires! But the #50 Ferrari, the #6 Porsche and the #83 AF Corse remain on the track!

Here we are ! The 92nd edition of the 24 2024 Hours of Le Mans takes place this weekend, June 14 and 15. The legendary Sarthe event welcomes 62 crews this year, with an exceptional field in the premier category: no less than 23 Hypercars are at the start, a record in the XNUMXst century!

An edition which promises to be very competitive with many favorites (Porsche, Ferrari, Toyota, Cadillac) and outsiders (BMW, Alpine, Peugeot…) in the running for victory. Rain could also add its two cents since showers are forecast for Saturday and Sunday. The 24 2024 Hours of Le Mans can be followed live with commentary on AUTOhebdo!
