At the right time, Kévin Estre (Porsche Penske Motorsport No. 6) is out of its box. The Frenchman let the Cadillacs have fun in the Hyperpole of 24 Hours of Le Mans 2024 before producing a remarkable effort in the last flying lap.

The driver of the official Porsche 963 he shares with André Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor explained how he handled the stressful session.

“It was a great session, even if it was very difficult, explains Kévin Estre. I had to manage the traffic as well as the red flag. I didn't have much fuel in the car, we knew it would be short to do two laps after the red flag. »

“Shorts”, but possible! The pole was also made possible by a hint of good timing, with the aspiration of an LM P2 in a high speed zone. “We left to do just one (lap thrown). Finally, I made a second one and it was very good! It wasn't far from a perfect ride. I had to overtake an LM P2 in the Indianapolis corner, but it had given me a little slipstream a little before, so we'll say that I won a little at one time and lost at another. »

Kévin Estre remembers that at Le Mans in 2023, for the first outing of the Porsche 963 Hypercar, the German giant disappointed (22nd, 11th for the Hypercar). What a turnaround 12 months later!

“We were very far from this performance last year. The Porsche team Penske Motorsport worked really well all winter and we arrived very strong in Qatar at the season opener (victory). I am very proud of what we have accomplished but on Saturday there are 24 hours ahead of us. »
