The BoP of the 24 Hours of Le Mans revealed with a two-tier system

The Balance of Performance for the Hypercar category has been unveiled for the 24 2024 Hours of Le Mans (June 15-16), with the adoption of a new two-level system.

It is the most anticipated technical document of the year in Endurance : the Balance of Performance, or BoP, for 24 Hours of Le Mans 2024 was revealed by the FIA ​​and the ACO this Monday. This only concerns the Hypercar category and adopts a new two-level system, with power control in two stages: a first power given below the 250 km/h mark, and a variation in power above of this speed. A way to better control the Hypercars on long straights like that of the Hunaudières.

Compared to 2023, Toyota appears to be the manufacturer best off with this BoP version 2024: with 27 kilos less on the scale, the GR010 is the Hypercar which loses the most weight compared to the Centenary edition (and 4kW less power per compared to 2023). All other Hypercars present in 2023 are also losing weight and power:

– Cadillac: 10 kg less, 4 kW less compared to 2023
- Ferrari : 21 kg less, 1 kW less compared to 2023
- Porsche : 6 kg less, 5 kW less compared to 2023

The case is different for Peugeot , which approved a new car at the start of the 2024 season. The new weapon from the Lion firm, however, takes 5 kilos more and 8kW less compared to the first version of the 9X8.

Among the other manufacturers involved, the only possible comparison remains with the BoP used during the 6 Hours of Spa. L'Alpine A424 gains 7 kilos and loses 6 kW of power compared to the Belgian channel. BMW also gains 1 kilo and loses 2 kW of power. The Isotta Fraschini Tipo6-C remains the heaviest Hypercar at 1048 kilos, even if it loses 12 kilos and 5kW of power compared to Spa. Finally, the Lamborghini will be the most powerful car on the field with 519 kW available, but it also gains 4 kilos on the scale.

In terms of power variation at 250 km/h, the Ferrari 499Ps will lose 1,7% of their power once this speed is reached: it is the Hypercar most penalized at high speed. Lamborghini will lose 1,6% power and Peugeot 0,7% power at 250 km/h. On the other hand, Alpine, BMW, Isotta Fraschini and Toyota will gain 0,9% power above 250 km/h.

Finally, in terms of on-board energy, all will have reduced capacities compared to the 6H of Spa. Ferrari will have 889 MJ of maximum energy available per relay. On the other side of the spectrum, Isotta Fraschini will be able to benefit from 915 MJ of maximum energy available per relay.
