- BMW seems able to confirm at Fuji its progress seen in Austin. The M Hybrid V8 n°15 of Raffaele Marciello, Dries Vanthoor and Marco Wittmann thus set the best time in Free Practice 2.
- The German prototype was just ahead of the Porsche 963 n°5 of Frédéric Makowiecki, Michael Christensen and Matt Campbell: a gap of only 0.009 seconds separates the two cars at the end of this second session of the day.
- Third place in this one and a half hour session goes to the Cadillac No. 2 of Alex Lynn and Earl Bamber, 0.015 seconds behind!
- You then have to go beyond three tenths to find the rest of the peloton with the Ferrari No. 83 AF Corse (Ye, Kubica, Shwartzman) at 0.327 seconds. Three others finished less than four tenths from first place: Toyota No. 8 (Buemi, Hartley, Hirakawa), the #20 BMW (S. Van der Linde, Rast, Frijns) and the #51 Ferrari (Calado, Giovinazzi, Pier Guidi).
- The field is extremely tight at the end of these Free Practice 2 since fourteen cars in the Hypercar category finished within the same second. On the French representatives' side, the best car is theAlpine #35 (Milesi, Habsburg, Gounon) in 11th place, 0.761 seconds behind the leading BMW. #36 (Stone, Schumacher, Vaxiviere) took 13th place with a delay of 0.904 seconds on the best time, just ahead of the first Peugeot , No. 93 (Vergne, Jensen, Müller). No. 94 (Duval, di Resta, Vandoorne) of the lion brand finished 16th, 1.255 seconds behind.
- On the GT3 side, the Ferrari 296 GT3 No. 55 of François Hériau, Simon Mann and Alessio Rovera set the reference time in 1:40.682.
