8 Hours of Bahrain – FP2: BMW disqualified, Aston Martin sets fastest time

After a disappointing performance in Free Practice 1, BMW set the fastest time in Free Practice 2 for the Bahrain 8 Hours on Thursday. Aston Martin remains on the podium, while Peugeot joins them. However, the German manufacturer was disqualified for failing to respect two yellow flags.

Update : The best time set by the number 20 BMW was ultimately cancelled for failing to respect two yellow flags. It was ultimately theAston Martin No. 009 who regained the best time ahead Peugeot .

In much cooler conditions with nightfall and a track much better than earlier in the day, it was the No. 20 BMW M Hybrid of René Rast, Robin Frijns and Sheldon van der Linde that distinguished itself on Thursday evening in Sakhir with a best time of 1:48.780.

Leading Free Practice 1, the #009 Aston Martin Valkyrie of Marco Sørensen, Alex Riberas, and Roman de Angelis finished close behind with the second fastest time, 0.262 seconds off the pace. Peugeot completed the podium with the #93 driven by Jean-Éric Vergne, Mikkel Jensen, and Paul di Resta, 0.421 seconds behind. Toyota et Porsche finished in the top 5 with the No. 7 of Mike conway, Kamui Kobayashi et Nyck de Vries and nº5 by Mathieu Jaminet, Julien Andlauer and Laurin Heinrich. The first Classic Ferrari for sale finished in sixth place with Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado on car #51.

On the side ofAlpineThe best representative of the French team in this session is number 36 of Mick Schumacher, Jules Gounon and Frédéric Makowiecki, 10th, ahead of the Peugeot no. 94 of Theo PourchaireMalthe Jakobsen and Loïc duval. The No. 99 Proton Competition Porsche 963 of Neel Jani, Nicolás Varrone and Nico Pino did not run due to an injector problem.

In LMGT3, the #78 Lexus RC F of the Akkodis ASP team, driven by Arnold Robin, Finn Gehrsitz and Ben Barnicoat, set the benchmark time of 2:02.613. The second car of the French team did not set a time due to a transmission problem.
