The Balance of Performance (BoP) of the 8H of Bahrain, eighth and final round of the 2024 season of the World ChampionshipEndurance (WEC) was unveiled this Tuesday, just three days before the first Free Practice on the Sakhir circuit.
This last race of the year will determine who Porsche, Toyota ou Classic Ferrari for sale will be crowned in the Drivers' and Constructors' championships this season. Advantage to the German firm which has a nice lead in both rankings... but which finds itself slightly handicapped compared to its two opponents in the Balance of Performance of the 8 Hours of Bahrain.
Indeed, reading the grid, Ferrari and Toyota seem rather well off by the BoP compared to Porsche. The Italian Hypercar gains 10 kW of power and loses 2 kg compared to the last round to date, the 6H of Fuji won by the Porsche n°6. The 499P will however lose 0,9% of power above the 250 km/h mark. On the Japanese side, the GR010 also loses weight with -5 kg on the scale, and gains 6 kW of power. For the German on the other hand, the 963 gains 7 kg more compared to Fuji, even if it recovers 2 kW of power for Bahrain.
Mixed fortunes also for the French: after its first podium in Japan in the premier category, theAlpine A424 ends up with 4 kg more and 1 kW less for the 8H of Bahrain, and above all, with a loss of power of 4,3% above 250 km/h. At Peugeot , if the 9X8 version 2024 gains a small kilogram (it remains the lightest Hypercar of the field), it gains above all 7kW of power and becomes the most powerful mount of the lot. It will however have a big handicap above 250 km/h, since the Lioness will lose 5,2% of its power after reaching this speed in a straight line.
