We knew the lineup, but not yet the driver distribution. Genesis Magma Racing has finally revealed the crews who will be behind the wheel of the two GMR-001s in the Hypercar category of the WEC in 2026. André Lotterer, Pipo Derani and Mathys Jaubert will be associated in No. 17, while Mathieu Jaminet, Paul-Loup Chatin and Daniel Juncadella will team up in No. 19.

« Once we had confirmed all our drivers for the 2026 season, determining the driver lineup for the two race cars became the most important decision for us. explains Gabriele Tarquini, the program's sporting director. We wanted the best possible balance between experience and youth in each crew. So, for example, we have André and Pipo – our most experienced drivers – paired with Mathys, who is the only one of our drivers who has never raced in the WEC. In the other car, we have an excellent mix of LMDh knowledge with Mathieu and Paul-Loup, as well as experience in Endurance by Dani. We analyzed each driver's performance during testing, but also listened to their feedback – and how they expressed it. We also assessed which drivers communicated and worked best together outside the car, something you observe during quieter moments in testing or during visits to the garage. Finally, we had to find the best compromises in terms of driver height and weight, as this is crucial for speeding up driver changes during races and gaining precious seconds. »

« Mathieu and Paul-Loup represent the point of balance within our team – between the experience of André and Pipo, and the youth and motivation of Mathys and Dani, adds the Italian. In evaluating driver options, we followed the WEC championship seasons and IMSAwhere Mathieu and Paul-Loup achieved excellent results: Mathieu won the IMSA title and Paul-Loup scored his first WEC victory (at the 6 Hours of Fuji), all at the wheel of a car built around an Oreca chassis, just like the GMR-001. »

Genesis has not yet confirmed whether the team will field trios in all rounds of the season or whether duos will be favoured for six-hour races.
