Since the Acura ARX-06 entered competition in the GTP category of theIMSA In 2023, questions arose regarding the model's entry into the World Championship.EnduranceAccording to Dailysportscar.com, this could become a reality as early as 2027, with the Japanese manufacturer in advanced discussions to enter the ARX-06 in the... WEC and therefore to 24 Hours of Le Mans from next year.

Unlike the American version, which competes under the Acura name, the WEC participation would be under the Honda name, but still based on the ARX-06. The Honda WEC program would be based in Europe, and therefore would not impact the program run by Acura and Meyer Shank Racing in IMSA, which could thus continue next year.

Michael Shank and Jim Mayer's team is therefore not the one expected to join the WEC with the Japanese manufacturer. Inter Europol Competition could be the team chosen to run Honda's ARX-06s and launch the European project. The Polish team, which made its debut ten years ago in the LMP3 category... ELMS, has since grown considerably and established itself as one of the leading LMP2 teams, notably winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023 and 2025 in the category.

Honda Racing Corporation is also reportedly in discussions with several private teams, who could then enter ARX-06s in the Asian Le Mans Series, with Hypercars making their debut in the championship at the end of this year, for Pro-Am programs with hand-picked Bronze drivers. If Honda were to join the WEC, the World Championship would welcome three new manufacturers to the top category in 2027, as Ford and McLaren have already confirmed their arrival by that time.

When contacted by us, the Japanese manufacturer did not comment on the rumors.

If this information is confirmed, then it is highly likely that the Mercedes and Porsche GT classes will disappear to make room for all these newcomers, and that we are unlikely to see the Porsche 963 in the hypercar category again anytime soon.
