Jenson Button will soon be stepping back from motorsport. The 45-year-old Briton, currently competing in WEC at Cadillac, will no longer drive in WEC next year in order to fully enjoy his family life. The world champion Formula 1 2009 with Brawn GP is therefore contesting his last race in Japan this weekend at the 6 Hours of Fuji. A country that has a special place in the career of the Englishman, Super GT champion in 2018.
« For my part, yes, I have had a lot of great racing experiences in Japan, whether in F1 for 16 years, in Super GT for a few years or obviously in WEC in 2018 and then these last two seasons. " said Button.
« Coming back here has always been a pleasure. This country has so many motorsport enthusiasts, incredibly dedicated fans. It's really great to see them in the paddock. I'll miss Japan, but there comes a time when you have to move on. It's a time in my life when a lot is happening. »
« Family is the most important thing to me right now, and that takes up a lot of time. Even though the WEC is only eight races, it takes up a lot of energy. With the complexity of the cars and systems, I don't think most people realize how much time and effort goes into preparing for a WEC round behind the scenes. I'll miss it, but there are also so many other things I want to do and achieve in my life, and I'm looking forward to discovering them. »
Jenson Button will try to shine one last time in Japan this weekend at the 6 Hours of Fuji where he is competing in the No. 38 alongside Sébastien Bourdais and Earl Bamber.
