McLaren reveals the name of its prototype for the WEC and the 2027 24 Hours of Le Mans

The British manufacturer officially announces the identity of its Hypercar, which will compete in the World Endurance Championship from 2027, while also unveiling an exclusive customer version.

This 24 April 2026, Mclaren racing has confirmed the name of the future Hypercar that will mark its grand return to the pinnacle of endurance racing: the McLaren MCL-HY. This prototype will compete in the World Endurance Championship.Endurance from 2027, with participation in the top category of 24 Hours of Le MansAs a reminder, this prototype is an LMDh with a Dallara chassis.

A name in keeping with Formula 1

With the MCL-HY, McLaren adopts a familiar nomenclature. The prefix "MCL", already used in Formula 1The name is associated here with the suffix "HY", a direct reference to Hypercar regulations. This allows the brand to reinforce the consistency of its identity across its various sporting programs, while affirming its commitment to a rapidly growing category.

This return coincides with what many consider a new golden age of endurance racing, with an increasingly dense and competitive grid. Alongside its World Championship program, McLaren also announced a version for its most privileged customers: the MCL-HY GTR. Reserved for track use only, this version continues a prestigious lineage, heir to the legendary McLaren F1 GTR, McLaren P1 GTR, and McLaren Senna GTR.

This program, called Project: Endurance, will offer clients a unique immersion into the behind-the-scenes workings of a high-level endurance program, with privileged access to team activities.

Full reveal in early May

McLaren has now set a date of May 4th for the official unveiling of the car, as well as its track day version. This dual project is the result of close collaboration between McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive.

Before its competitive debut, the MCL-HY will first be presented in a test livery, prior to its initial testing. Only one driver has been confirmed for this program so far: Mikkel Jensen.
