LikeAlpine, BMW confirmed its rise in the Hypercar category by securing a second podium in four races, equaling its best result so far at Imola, obtained last year at the 6 Hours of Fuji (2nd). While a strong performance was expected from the #15 BMW, entrusted to the trio Kevin Magnussen, Dries Vanthoor and Raffaele Marciello, qualified third on the grid, it was finally the n°20 of René Rast, Robin Frijns and Sheldon van der Linde which climbed onto the podium at the end of the event. A first for this crew.
A fantastic result for René Rast
« Finally getting this podium is a fantastic result, René Rast rejoiced. Qualifying didn't go as planned, but in the race we demonstrated the quality of our car and our team. We made almost no mistakes, stayed calm, and executed well. There was also a bit of luck, but after experiencing so much bad luck, we can say we deserved it! »
A promising result before Team WRT's home race, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. A superb racing weekend with a second place in Hypercar and LMGT3, adds Vincent Vosse, the team principal of the Belgian team. The #15 car finished sixth after some late-race issues — we'll analyze what happened. We also had some issues with the #31 car. It's never nice to see them so far down the standings, especially since they were in second place at the halfway point after coming back from 12th. And it's also frustrating for the #46 car, which led a good part of the race and had the pace to win without that penalty. Either way, a double podium in WEC remains a great satisfaction. Next step: the home race. We'll see! »
