Stability. This is the watchword from the FIA regarding the Hypercar category of the WEC since the regulations currently in force are extended until 2032. The announcement was made this Friday during the traditional ACO press conference before the 24H of Le Mans.
"It was important that the regulation could go until 2032. The decision was taken by the commission Endurance and will be ratified by the FIA World Council this Monday. It was important to give the public a very strong signal of stability and prove that this format is viable, solid. Other manufacturers are arriving. The modalities will have to be discussed with them and theIMSA », says Richard Mille, president of the FIA Endurance Commission. The goal is to complete these arrangements by the end of 2025.
Apart from Hypercar, the partnership between ACO and IMSA extended
"We're living in a fantastic era for endurance racing, but also for motorsport. We have a record number of manufacturers for a world championship. The spectacle is there. All the ingredients are there for the WEC to achieve lasting success.", assures Frédéric Lequien, FIA WEC director, for his part. The latter indicates that at Fuji, at the end of September, the championship will celebrate its 100th race. A special logo will also be created for the occasion.
Another announcement at this conference: the extension of the partnership between the ACO and IMSA, also until 2032. GTP will remain the main category.. "It makes sense to extend our agreement between IMSA and ACO from the moment the Hypercar regulations are extended on our side," says Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO.
