This is a great way to restart the machine. Four weeks earlier, Alpine had left Le Mans earlier than expected. The reliability of the Mecachrome engines had betrayed those of the two A524s entered, and the Blues had to fold prematurely, without exceeding 6 hours in the classic Le Mans race.
Since then, Philippe Sinault and his men have worked hard to identify and above all resolve these problems while keeping the 6 Hours of São Paulo in sight. In Brazil, where competition resumes after a one-month break, Alpine arrived with other ambitions than at Le Mans, where it was above all a question of doing well, particularly at home.
Thus, the arrowed A did not experience a start. Unlike the 24 Hours in mid-June, there was no Hyperpole but the tricolor horses held their own. Their engine also, which allowed them to see the checkerboard again. Certainly discreet, this result (10e for No. 36 and 12e for No. 35) has given some smiles to the French troops who want to get back on track for good and confirm their progress after an encouraging start to the campaign.
« We had to send a signal and initiate a new positive dynamic after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, smiles Philippe Sinault, main team ofAlpine. We achieved this by finishing the race with our two cars even if we only finished tenth and twelfth after six hours of intense fighting. We lacked some knowledge about tires in these conditions with very changing temperatures, but we leave Interlagos with a lot of useful information in this area, which is the one where we need to improve the most. Both crews put in a serious and solid performance with good stops from the team and the No. 36 opened its account. The cars are now heading to Austin, where we will have to implement the lessons learned this week to be ever more in contact with our adversaries."
