The trio of the #31 BMW composed of Augusto Farfus, Darren Leung and Sean Gelael won brilliantly to win the LMGT3 category at the 6 Hours of Imola, second round of the 2024 World Championship season.Endurance of the FIA, contested on Sunday April 21 at the Autodromo Enzo e Diro Ferrari.

Team WRT, which operates the firm's propeller-driven cars, has released an in-house strategy to enable its cars to score a double, since the No. 46 of Valentino Rossi, Maxime Martin and Ahmad Al-Harthy finished in second position. Vincent Vosse's men took the gamble of staying in Slicks despite the rain that was falling. And unlike Ferrari in the Hypercar category, it paid off for the German manufacturer.

« It was very difficult because we had a lot of rain, declared Augusto Farfus after the race.

There was rain on different parts of the circuit so it was more of a guessing game on how you attack and how grippy the track is, but I'm pretty confident in these kinds of conditions which I really like . »

So comfortable that the Brazilian found himself overtaking prototypes in the Hypercar category.

« The traffic was so bad. I mean, I know how hard the Hypercars guys have to fight to keep the car on track. I know that from my races in America (At IMSA where he drives the BMW LMDh. Editor’s note), when I'm behind these guys, these conditions were by far the worst for them because you're dealing with different tires.

So we had to be a lot more patient to finally overtake Maxime (Martin) and I opened up a gap of almost 10 seconds, but all the cars were coming out of the pits with different tires so it was difficult. »

Teamwork reinforced the decision to stay on Slicks throughout the race.

« We were constantly discussing (on the radio) the need to opt for rain tires (…) even when the rain intensified. Hats off to the WRT team for today's effort. »

Farfus could be all the more in heaven as he climbed to the highest step of the podium in front of his children, Vicky, 13 years old, pilot of karting and recently announced in the Iron Dames program, as well as Johnny, who celebrated his 7th birthday that same day. A beautiful Sunday at the Farfus’.
