The day after the final of WEC in Bahrain, who saw the new coronation of Toyota and the Buemi – Hartley – Hirakawa trio in Hypercar, the traditional Rookie Test took place this Sunday, still on the Sakhir track. A day dedicated to more or less young drivers, with more or less experience in the discipline – even if this is no longer really the case today – to discover a new car.

While some drivers received a direct invitation from the WEC to race in certain categories, such as Josh Pierson for Hypercar, Nicolás Varrone for LM P2 and Antoine Doquin for LMGTE Am, others were able to test themselves for the first time at aboard vehicles new to them.

This is particularly the case of Lilou Wadoux, who discovered the Ferrari Hypercar winner at Le Mans. For the Frenchwoman, official GT driver for the Italian manufacturer, this “gift” could also serve as a life-size test in the event that a third Ferrari customer would see the light of day in WEC. Robert Shwartzman was also able to drive the Ferrari.

Other pilots were present, like Valentino Rossi who tried his hand at LM P2 for Team WRT. The legend of MotoGP should ride with the Belgian team in LMGT3 in 2024. Other French people were also in Bahrain this Sunday, like Norman Nato aboard the Porsche 963 from Hertz Team Jota, with a view to a possible start in the long races of the WEC next year. Clément Novalak was able to drive the Inter Europol Competition LM P2.
