McLaren to change LMGT3 team in 2026

McLaren will change its operating team for the upcoming WEC LMGT3 season, with Garage 59 taking over from United Autosports.

McLaren to change LMGT3 team in 2026

United Autosports will indeed focus on the development of the new LMDh in the coming year. McLaren, which will enter the Hypercar category of the WEC In 2027, with the program being jointly run by the British brand and the American team, United will maximize its resources on the development of the new machine.

Having entered McLarens in the GT World Challenge for several years, including victories in GTWC Europe this season, Garage 59 will represent McLaren in the LMGT3 category of the WEC next season. Manufacturers involved must go through customer teams to enter the category, such as Manthey with Porsche, or Akkodis ASP with Lexus. Garage 59 will enter two McLaren 720S GT3 EVOs.

Garage 59 Team Principal Andrew Kirkaldy makes no secret of his pride in moving up to the world stage with participation in the World Championship.Endurance : “We are proud to partner with McLaren on the international stage. Competing in the WEC with two McLaren GT3 EVOs is not just a step forward, it’s a statement of intent. We know how intense the competition is in the WEC, but we believe we have the people, infrastructure and determination to be competitive from day one.”

The 2026 FIA WEC season will kick off on March 28th with the 1,812 km Qatar Championship in Losail.
