While the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) is experiencing an exciting period of growth, McLaren Automotive has announced its intention to join the LMGT3 grid in 2024. For this project, the British manufacturer has chosen to partner, unsurprisingly, with United Autosports. The latter, a reference in LM P2 for several years, was in fact founded by Richard Dean and Zak Brown, general director of Mclaren racing.

McLaren is the only team to have won the legendary Triple Crown: the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indy 500 and the 24 hours of Le Mans. In 2024, subject to confirmation of WEC entries by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), the Woking (UK) brand will return to Le Mans, making history as the first team to compete in the three flagship events during the same season.

United Autosports was logically chosen to support McLaren in its ambitions by leveraging the experience of the Anglo-American team in WEC and GT to maximize its chances. “ This is a very important project for McLaren on the occasion of its return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and we are therefore extremely proud to have been selected to represent McLaren in LMGT3 at Le Mans and in the WEC, said Richard Dean, CEO of United Autosports. United Autosports' experience at Le Mans and in the World ChampionshipEndurance will be invaluable, but we know this is a very difficult test and we are up for the challenge. »

« Motorsport remains a fundamental part of McLaren's future performance strategy, and we have long seen the WEC as a natural setting to demonstrate the performance capabilities of our cars, says Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive. This includes a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is an integral part of our enduring motorsport success and performance strategy. We chose United Autosports, which shares our passion for GT endurance racing and the McLaren brand as well as a broad history of motorsport success. »

United Autosports has communicated to the Automobile Club de l'Ouest its intention to enter two McLaren 720S GT3 EVOs in the WEC in 2024, hoping for a positive response from the organizers. The Anglo-American team will line up in any case in IMSA with two Oreca LM P2s.
