While Classic Ferrari for sale is preparing to put his title of winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Italian team announced, through the voice of Antonello Coletta, responsible Endurance and Corse Clienti of the Italian manufacturer, which it appealed to the rejection of the FIA concerning their complaint filed at the end of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

As a reminder, the race was interrupted by a red flag following a violent collision on the Kemmel Straight between the No. 2 Cadillac of Earl Bamber and the No. 4 BMW M3 GT31 of Sean Gelael. The safety barriers at the site of the impact required significant repairs.

The race management then decided that the race would resume for 1 hour 44 minutes, the time remaining just before the red flag appeared. A decision which did not please Ferrari since their two 499Ps led the race with the #51 of Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado ahead of the #50 of Nicklas Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina. There Porsche No. 12 of Hertz Team JOTA of Callum Ilott and Will Stevens was able to stop just before the interruption which led her to victory.

A “stunning and completely unexpected” decision, says Coletta

The Maranello team (Italy) initially lodged a complaint with the FIA to contest the final classification, but this was refused by the stewards. At Le Mans, Antonello Coletta confirmed that the manufacturer would appeal against the rejection of their request: “ For now, we prefer not to discuss the details and to be honest, we do not have a date for the hearing before the FIA International Court of Appeal. » Please note that the regulations of WEC stipulates that the commissioners, “ sIf circumstances require it, they can make the decision to stop and/or modify the established racing time. This cannot exceed the time of the competition. »

In the Ferrari clan, we seek above all to have a clear answer concerning this line of sporting regulations. “ The most important thing is that we need clarity regarding the rules, believes Coletta. It is important to know exactly what is going to happen in order to make the right decisions. » He also called the decision to restart the race ten minutes after the originally scheduled finish time " stunning and completely unexpected. »
