François Heriau put in a great performance this Saturday during the Hyperpole of the 6 Hours of Fuji by taking pole position in the GT3 category, the very first in WEC for him, but also the first in this championship for the Ferrari 296 GT3 which he shares with Simon Mann and Alessio Rovera.
« I prepared well for my qualifications at this meeting, François Heriau told us on Saturday after his performance. I really wanted to do well for the team. The first part of qualifying went well and we had to repeat that in Hyperpole. I didn't put too much pressure on myself and I managed to find the benchmarks I had in Free Practice. I'm happy to have achieved that and not made any mistakes. »
A position that is all the more important given the characteristics of the GT3. The Ferrari is a very good car in clean air, explains Heriau. Once we get it all together, it's obviously fast over a lap and on average, but it's a bit of a different story when we're battling in traffic. It's sensitive to loss of aero. It's an important position, I hope it will help us get that first podium that we haven't had since the beginning of the year."
For the 40-year-old from Rennes, it's a waking dream that has continued since the beginning of the year. I drive for Ferrari in a World Championship, I pinch myself almost every day since I started the year, he smiled. To get a pole is really great. I'm really finding my feet in the car and I'm continuing to progress and work. I'm happy to make this happen."
With a first victory in the World Championship ofEndurance of the FIA this Sunday? We will remain humble, Heriau answers. We We come to win, but a podium would already be good. We will have to do a clean race, without mistakes, and we will see where we are at the end."
See you at 4:00 a.m. (French time) this Sunday for the start of the 6 Hours of Fuji.
