The Prologue of WEC will Qatar experience a change in its program?
New to the calendar, the Losail International Circuit constitutes an unprecedented challenge for the entire field. Inaugurated in 2004, the 5,419 km route offers rhythmic sequences with sixteen medium and high speed turns coupled with one of the longest straights of the season (1 meters).
The 37 crews in the 2024 field will have two days to fine-tune their settings, adapt to the conditions and the circuit ahead of the opening round in Qatar. Four sessions are planned this weekend, with over the two days, a three-hour session in the morning (10 a.m.-13 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Sunday) and a four-hour session in the afternoon (15 p.m.-19 p.m. Saturday, 14 p.m.-18 p.m. Sunday).
This initially planned program could nevertheless be modified due to a delay in maritime freight due to the current situation in the Red Sea where many ships have been targeted since November by Yemen's Houthi rebels.
« Due to shipping route disruptions in the Red Sea, a number of containers have been delayed in their journey to Qatar for the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. The championship expects some freight to arrive at the circuit with a delay of 24 to 48 hours and keeps teams regularly informed of developments. The Prologue schedule could therefore be modified and a decision should be made shortly “, the WEC told us.
More information will be communicated later on the schedules for the 2024 WEC Prologue in Qatar. The 1 km of Qatar will take place on Saturday March 812 to open the 2 season of the World Championship.Endurance of the FIA.
