Wayne Taylor Racing eyes WEC entry in 2026

Wayne Taylor is considering entering a Cadillac full-time in the World Endurance Championship starting in 2026. While four of the brand's prototypes will be competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, the American team's boss is considering a transatlantic entry shared between WEC and IMSA.

Cadillac will be presented at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2025 with a veritable armada. No fewer than four cars from the American manufacturer will take the start of the Sarthe classic on Saturday, June 14. In addition to the two prototypes entered this season by the British team Hertz Team JOTA, the American teams Action Express Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing will cross the Atlantic with one car each. Former South African driver Wayne Taylor recently mentioned his desire to see one of his two cars entered in the IMSA evolve in the World ChampionshipEndurance (WEC).

“Looking ahead, I would love to have a commitment on both sides of the Atlantic, but I think JOTA is very well equipped there,” explains Wayne Taylor. “They have a lot of experience. That said, in the last few days, I found myself thinking that maybe next year we could propose to Cadillac, GM and all our partners: What if we entered a car in WEC and one in IMSA? It might not please my drivers, but at the end of the day, what drives us is the passion for racing and the will to win.”

A WEC entry could help the Indianapolis-based team better prepare for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “It’s really just an idea that’s been floating around in my head. I think it’ll probably come as a surprise to the drivers involved, who probably haven’t even heard about it from me yet. And of course, I haven’t discussed it with our partners either. But it seems to make sense to me. The WEC is a European culture, different from the American racing culture. And I think some of the little things you learn naturally as a team in the WEC can really help once you get to Le Mans.”

"We are on very good terms with JOTA, adds Wayne Taylor. I think Ricky (Taylor) has joined them twice. We have a close relationship with them, although once you're racing, it's all on your own. But in that sense, we're four Cadillac factory programs, and hopefully, it all comes together."

The regulations do not prohibit the presence of a third car per manufacturer in the Hypercar category. This is already the case for Ferrari et Porsche, each represented by three cars. The arrival of an additional “Caddy” would help expand a Hypercar World Cup which currently has only two privateer cars entered this season: the No. 499 Ferrari 83P and the No. 963 Porsche 99 from Proton Competition.
