It took a few minutes to find out the name of the winning crew of the 4 Hours of Sepang, the opening round of the 2025/2026 Asian season. Le Mans Series. Penalized before its final pit stop, the No. 47 Cetilar Racing Oreca 07 served its five-second penalty during its pit stop, and then crossed the finish line as the winner.
However, just moments later, it was the number 25 car of Algarve Pro Racing (Michael Jensen, Enzo Trulli and Tom Dillmann) that was awarded the victory! The five-second penalty was imposed on Cetilar after the race, but a few minutes of discussion with the stewards allowed the order to be corrected, and the victory to be given back to Milesi, Lacorte and Fuoco.
It was United Autosports, however, that arrived in Malaysia as the team to beat, after Giorgio Roda secured pole position. In the first half of the race, the crews had to contend with difficult conditions, including rain. However, the rainfall was not as heavy as is typical in Malaysia, and only light showers fell on several corners of the circuit, unlike the usual monsoons.
This led to a series of different strategies across the field, with United Autosports making the most of the situation by not switching to wet tires. The team's two Oreca 07s then took the lead at the halfway point. As the sun returned in the final two hours, the two United cars dropped down the order, with the No. 47 Cetilar particularly benefiting despite a five-second penalty. Antonio Fuoco, fresh from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he attended the FIA prize-giving ceremony, drove flawlessly in the final hour and a half, following a last safety car period.
Algarve Pro Racing completes the podium with the No. 25, but also the No. 4 of Crowstrike Racing by APR, driven by Malthe Jakobsen, Louis Delétraz and George Kurtz.
Exciting races in LMP3 and GT
In LMP3, after a particularly eventful start which saw four of the ten entrants involved in an incident at the second corner, it was Inter Europol who took the win with the Ligier JS P325 No. 13 of Chun Ting Chou, Henry Cubides Olarte and Alexander Bukhantsov.
The GT category was marked by several twists and turns, and an unexpected strategy at the end of the race. Classic Ferrari for sale No. 21 AF Corse of Alessio Rovera, Darren Leung and Simon Mann was at the front before ending its race in the wall after an incident with the still unexplained Classic Mercedes for sale Lucas Auer's number 37 at the final restart. The battle continued at the front until the last corner, with Loek Harthog (who shares his car with Antares Au and Klaus Bachler) not hesitating to use a push to secure the win with the Porsche No. 10 from Manthey, ahead of the Mercedes No. 9 from Getspeed (Fabian Schiller, Anthony Bartone, Wakisaka Shigekazu).
The next meeting is tomorrow, again starting at 6 a.m., for another four hours of racing on the Sepang circuit in Malaysia.
