Four out of four for Dries Vanthoor and the #8 BMW M Hybrid V24! At Laguna Seca, the Belgian driver secured another pole position, with a lead of just five thousandths of a second over the Porsche No. 6 of Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell. While the propeller brand's one-lap dominance continues, the first three races of the season have all been won by the No. 7 Porsche of Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr, who will start this Sunday from third position. For Vanthoor, as for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team, which is entering the BMWs in IMSA, we would like to be able to talk about race victories rather than pole positions!
“I’m very happy to have secured four consecutive pole positions,” said Vanthoor. “I’m a little sad not to have won, but we have the opportunity to do so on Sunday. It’s important that we put this behind us and come away from here answering a question other than, ‘When are we going to win?’ We’re very motivated and we’ll push hard in every area and every aspect. I hope we get the result we deserve.”
The rest of the GTP pack is not far behind, as the entire category is separated by only one second. This includes theAston Martin Valkyrie, which will close the march in eleventh place, behind the customer Porsche 963, from JDC Miller Motorsports. As in WEC This season, things are not easy for the Stuttgart brand's customers. While Porsche Penske Motorsport's results in the world championship have been rather disappointing, the North American championship is preparing to perhaps experience a fourth Porsche victory this year...
On the GTD Pro side, it is the Ferrari 296 GT3 n°81 of the DragonSpeed team which achieved the best time, while we find the Mercedes-AMG GT3 No. 32 of Korthoff Competition Motors at the forefront in the GTD category. The start of the fifth round of the season will be given at around 21 p.m. French time, for a 2-hour 40-minute race.
