The 28th edition of Le Petit Le Mans, finale of the 2025 season ofIMSA, offered a rather eventful start to the race at Road Atlanta. From the first seconds, an impressive pile-up involving five GTs (Lamborghini n°45, Ferrari n°34, Ford n°66, Ferrari n°70 and Aston Martin #44) caused an extended yellow flag and a restart twenty minutes later. In the lead, Tom Blomqvist (Acura #60) kept his cool under pressure from Jack Aitken (Cadillac #31) and Felipe Nasr (Porsche #7).

The second hour remained dominated by the British Acura, despite a spectacular incident: a lost wheel on the Mercedes No. 80 narrowly missed hitting the leader. However, the second Acura, No. 93, was less successful, slowed down by gearbox problems.

As the third hour progressed, Aitken found an opening on Blomqvist in traffic, before a series of incidents in LMP2 reshuffled the cards. The collision between the #8 Tower Motorsport Oreca 07 (in which Sébastien Bourdais was lined up) and the Ferrari Triarsi n°021 offered a strategic opportunity to Porsche: a perfectly timed stop allowed Mathieu Jaminet to come out in front.

At mid-race, the No. 6 Porsche of the Jaminet–Matt Campbell duo, with Laurens Vanthoor as third man after the last-minute withdrawal of Julien Andlauer, therefore leads the dance in front of the Cadillac nº31 driven by Earl Bamber, with Philipp Eng in third position for BMW.

In LMP2, United Autosports is in control with the No. 22 of Rasmus Lindh, Paul di Resta and Dan Goldburg. In GTD Pro, the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 Evo leads the class, while the Ferrari 296 GT3 No. 21 by Alessandro Pier Guidi, Lilou Wadoux and Simon Mann takes first place in the GTD.

With five hours left to race, Jaminet, Campbell and Porsche are in a strong position to win the 2025 IMSA season titles.
