Launched this summer at the Goodwood Festival, the Lamborghini Temerario GT3 marks a breakthrough in the history of the Italian brand. This new model is the very first prototype designed entirely in-house by Lamborghini Squadra Corse, without a platform shared with another Volkswagen Group brand.
Unlike the Huracán GT3 Evo2, which shared its origins with the previous-generation Audi R8 LMS GT3, also from the Volkswagen Group portfolio, the Temerario is a 100% Lamborghini creation, conceived, developed and assembled in Sant'Agata Bolognese. This is our first real racing car without a sister car, a revolution for us " explains Rouven Mohr, technical director of the brand.
The objective is clear: a first official test run in the United States IMSA at Daytona in November 2025, with a view to a competitive debut at the 2026 12 Hours of Sebring. This test will be crucial for obtaining homologation and Balance of Performance (BoP).
« We have to bring the car to the official test on November 15-16, because IMSA has to see how the whole technical control system works, explains Maurizio Leschiutta, head of Lamborghini Motorsport. There's no official test until Sebring (in 2026), so this is really our only chance for them to say, 'OK, we understand what we need to do for homologation and balancing of performance (BoP) before we start Sebring fairly.' »
Until then, development is in full swing. The car has already covered about 5,000 km. Our goal is to reach 10,000 by the end of the year. adds Leschiutta. It has been driven at Vallelunga, Imola, Mugello, Misano, and we still have tests planned at Misano, Barcelona, Paul Ricard, and we are also planning an endurance test at Sebring in addition to the official test. »
The main challenge remains production capacity for 2026, as the Huracán GT3 Evo2 will remain in service in parallel. A Super Trofeo version of the Temerario is also in preparation for 2027.
