For the Laguna Seca round, Proton had to find a new driver to support Gianmaria Bruni. Indeed, if the teams IMSA et WEC of Proton had already initiated a Porsche 963 each on the same weekend, in Imola and Long Beach, another category makes things more complex.

The presence of the GTD Pro at Laguna Seca prevents Mike Rockenfeller or Harry Tincknell from slipping behind the wheel of the GTD category cars. Both drivers are already entered in the Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT3s. Proton therefore had to look elsewhere for its second driver, and Bent Viscaal was the lucky one.

The Dutchman knows the structure well, with which he plays particularly in European Le Mans Series. Second in the LMP2 Pro-Am category on the Circuit Paul Ricard last Sunday, he will thus discover the premier category of theEndurance on a particularly demanding Laguna Seca circuit.

“I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the Porsche 963. I thank the entire Proton Competition team and the people who have supported me since I left my career in car. It’s a dream come true, and I can’t wait to make it a memorable weekend! », Viscaal said.

After a difficult start to the season, the No. 5 Proton Competition Porsche occupies eighth place in the GTP team standings, behind the two BMW M Hybrid V8s of Team Rahal Letterman Lanigan. The team recorded two top 5 finishes, at the 24 Hours of Daytona to start the season, and during the last round, contested on the Californian streets of Long Beach.
