While Keselowski won the Cup Series championship in 2012 driving a Team Penske Dodge, his arrival in 2022 as a shareholder in what was then known as Roush Fenway Racing (which became RFK Racing for Roush Fenway Keselowski) only strengthened his ties with Ford, the brand he has championed since 2013. Indeed, since its creation in 1988, the team has only entered cars bearing the blue oval, whereas others have been able to try different paths depending on the competitiveness levels of the different manufacturers.
Therefore, when Ford announced its entry into the Hypercar category by 2027, Keselowski, who has never hidden his desire to extend RFK's reach beyond the NASCAR, took an interest in it. This wouldn't be the first time for Jack Roush's team, which has already entered Fords in Trans Am and in IMSA GT in the 1990s. During a fan meet-and-greet on the sidelines of this weekend's NASCAR championship finale in Phoenix, Keselowski affirmed his ambitions to manage the Ford program in IMSA in the future, the brand having so far only revealed its intention to enter the World Championship.Endurance under his own name, from 2027.
“Ford is building a Hypercar for 2027 that will compete at Le Mans and perhaps in the United States. And if it competes in the United States, I would like to own that team.” The ambition is clear, and would be part of the resurgence of a team that had reached the bottom of the standings in the early 2020s. Since Keselowski’s arrival at the end of 2021, victories have returned, thanks to Keselowski and especially Chris Buescher, who won three times in 2023 and ultimately finished seventh in the championship.
Entering IMSA with Ford in 2028 would allow RFK to continue his strong run of results in NASCAR, build a solid foundation, and take the time to prepare a competitive program. However, there should be no shortage of contenders to run these Hypercars by then…
