It's a big day for BMW. The German manufacturer's M Hybrid V8 took its first ever pole position during qualifying for the 24 Hours of Daytona on Thursday. However, things aren't all rosy for the propeller firm, as the No. 25 encountered a problem that led to a red flag. Which didn't help matters for future poleman Dries Vanthoor, especially with the freezing temperatures.

« It wasn't easy with the red flag, recognizes the Belgian. It made the tyre warm-up a bit more difficult for everyone. We have improved a lot on that, which was a big sticking point for us last year. It seemed to work well today. Then it was just a matter of putting in the laps and trying to do my best. I am very happy. »

A performance that confirms those displayed by the BMWs during the Roar, last weekend. Last week we were also in a strong position. Today we are again. I think we have worked hard and I think it is nice to see that everyone here, but also at the factory and everywhere else, sees that it works. I think everyone can be happy and proud of that. But again, this is just a little cherry on a big cake, so there is one more important thing that has to happen, and that is the rate. It can go either way. »

The 24 Hours of Daytona start on Saturday at 19:40 p.m. (French time).
