Meyer Shank Racing returns to IMSA, and again with Acura!

The team of Michael Shank and Jim Meyer will enter one of the two official Acuras during the 2025 season of the North American championship, which will begin with the 24 Hours of Daytona. The association between the two entities is not new, since this was already the case until the end of the 2023 season. Honda Racing Corporation USA has severed ties with Meyer Shank Racing following the affair in particular of cheating in which the team found itself at the 24 Hours of Daytona 2023. Winner of the event, the team manipulated its tire pressure readings, in order to run with a pressure lower than that required by Michelin. Heavily penalized, the team did not lose victory in the most important race of the season.

The return of the Acura/Meyer Shank duo occurs as rumors become more and more insistent about a potential partnership between Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (which currently enters Acuras), and Cadillac. The American brand has already announced the end of its partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing, which is currently entering its prototypes in IMSA (with one more car on the Action Express side), just like in WEC.

One factory car for Acura, another for Meyer Shank

The 2025 partnership will see Meyer Shank enter an Acura ARX-06, the other being a factory HRC US car. This is the first time that the American entity of Honda in competition itself enters a car at the highest level of theEndurance U.S.. “Racing our own car in GTP is the exciting next step for our associates at HRC US”, said David Salters, president of Honda Racing Corporation USA. “We enter motorsport to develop our people and technology and we are excited to partner with MSR to race our ARX-06 against some of the best Endurance teams in the world. »

The names of the drivers have not yet been revealed, but we can imagine that Tom Blomqvist, strong man of the Meyer Shank Racing Endurance program, could be there. The Briton was sacked from the branch IndyCar after a difficult start to the 2024 season, but the team leaders quickly made it known that he remained in the Meyer Shank Racing “family”.
