THEAston Martin Valkyrie LMH is here! After months of testing from Silverstone to Bahrain via Donington Park and Road Atlanta, the long-awaited prototype from the Gaydon brand made its first official outing this Friday on the occasion of the first day of pre-season testing for theIMSA and the 24 Hours of Daytona.
After a quiet start to the day, the English beast completed 96 laps of the Florida track in the hands of Ross Gunn, Alex Riberas and Roman De Angelis for a best time of 1:37.715 signed by the former. A time that places the Valkyrie just under two seconds (1.810) from the reference lap of the day set by Tom Blomqvist at the wheel of the Acura ARX-06 of the Meyer Shank Racing team (1:35.905). Of course, these performances should be taken with a pinch of salt and are not necessarily representative of the levels of each during the next season, each one follows his own program and these tests also serve to define the Balance of Performance (BoP) for the Florida classic.
A test on which the presence of the Valkyrie is not yet acquired, since the team The Heart of Racing Team could prefer to skip it in order to delay the homologation of the car. It would therefore be necessary to wait for the 1812 km of Qatar, the opening round of the WEC on February 28, to see the car in competition.
While we wait to know for sure its start date, this first official outing is an opportunity to hear the roar of the non-hybrid atmospheric V12 and to see the prototype in action on the Daytona banking with the video below, available via LankyTurtle's YouTube channel.
