BMW Motorsports has confirmed that Team RLL will enter the M6 GTLM in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2016, a GT3-based model also in the works for next year. The car has already participated in official testing of theIMSA to establish the Balance of Performance during the FIA and ACO tests carried out in Ladoux (Puy-de-Dôme).
“It was a logical step to use the basis of our BMW M6 GT3 to develop a car in WTSC. The BMW M6 GTLM has all the essential ingredients to delight spectators in the USA and Canada”, explained Jens Marquardt, director of BMW Motorsport.
“A new car, a tough peloton and the hundredth anniversary of BMW… All this will make 2016 an exceptional year”, added Bobby Rahal, Team Principal of BMW Team RLL. “I am delighted that RLL will continue to represent the BMW sports program in North America for an eighth season. The M6 GTLM will be the third model at our disposal since 2009, with the M3 from 2009 to 2012) and the Z4 from 2013 to 2015.”
