2nd place in Monaco for Piastri: “very happy with this result”

There's no better way to pay tribute to Ayrton Senna than by standing on the podium in Monaco. Oscar piastri concludes a perfect weekend with a 2nd place in the Principality. The Australian, who dominated his teammate throughout, managed to secure a podium in the streets of Monaco, his third in his career.

However, the race was not easy for the young 23-year-old driver. The latter came under pressure from Carlos Sainz for 78 laps, without showing any sign of weakness at any time. In the first loops, Piastri could even have taken the lead of the race, or at least tried to take it, but Charles Leclerc said no, not this year.

A 2nd place finish at the end of a rather stressful race for the drivers, from a strategic point of view. “It was a complicated race, explains the McLaren driver. The pace at the start of the race was incredibly slow, I even had a slight urge to overtake Charles at one point, at the exit of the Tunnel. Thanks to the whole team, it will remain a very good weekend, a very good result for us. We haven't been able to get the results we wanted in recent weeks, and finally, we're getting there. »

“Charles was incredible all weekend, he was fast from the start, he congratulates. My luck ran out during qualifying but I'm very happy with this 2nd place, it's really a very good result for the team. »

A podium which will restore a lot of confidence to Oscar Piastri and which will surely silence the first criticisms which were expressed towards him...

Congratulations to Piastri who must regret not having won pole on Saturday, just to open his victory counter in Monaco like other drivers before (Beltoise, Panis, Trulli) and to pay a nice tribute to Senna, 6 times winner at Monaco!
