27 years

It's a first in our century: two French people on the same podium at a Grand Prix Formula 1, it hadn't happened since the Spanish Grand Prix in 1997! At the time, Olivier Panis finished 2nd in his Ligier ahead of Jean Alesi, who drove for Benetton. 27 years later, Esteban Ocon et Pierre Gasly repeated this feat at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday.

1994

The feat is even greater as the two Normans finished on the podium… aboard a French car! The drivers Alpine are the first to achieve this feat in 30 years: the last time two Frenchmen climbed onto the podium with a French car was at the 1994 German Grand Prix with Olivier Panis and Éric Bernard, both in a Ligier.

2006

To find the last trace of a double podium for a French team, we have to go back to the 2006 Japanese Grand Prix. Renault had signed a double with the victory of Fernando Alonso and 2nd place for Giancarlo Fisichella.

2013

More recently, the last time the team ofenstone placed both of its drivers on the podium, it was in South Korea 2013, when the team was called Lotus. Kimi Raikkonen finished 2nd and Romain Grosjean 3rd. Since Renault's full return to F1 in 2016 (renamed Alpine since 2021), the Diamond has won 9 podiums, including those obtained by Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly this Sunday at Interlagos.

33 point

With this double podium in Brazil, Alpine scored an impressive 33 points (+ 2 points in the Sprint race), the 2nd best total for the French team since its return to Formula 1 in 2016. The best score over a Grand Prix weekend is obviously the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021 with 37 points thanks to Esteban Ocon's victory and Fernando Alonso's 4th place. Above all, by scoring 35 points over this weekend alone, the A arrow scored 2,5x more points than the total number of points won since the start of the season (14 points before Brazil)!

6th in the championship

Thanks to the 35 points scored in São Paulo, Alpine made a giant leap in the Constructors' Championship. Only 9th before the Brazilian weekend with 14 points, the French team has propelled itself to 6th place with 49 points, ahead of Haas (46 points), Racing Bulls (44 points) and Williams (17 points). A double podium which truly saves the season ofAlpine...

14 laps led

This is the funny stat of this Brazilian Grand Prix: Esteban Ocon has become the 9th driver of the season to lead at least one lap in 2024. The Norman even led 14 laps at Interlagos… while Sergio Pérez has only led one lap this season! Alpine is also the only team outside the four Top Teams (McLaren, Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes) to have led at least one lap in a Grand Prix this year.

These stats don't come out of nowhere, if AH wants to contact me about my driver and brand results sheets (F1, F2, Endurance, WRC) carefully compiled between 1973 and 1994 inclusive, we can discuss it, you will be able to reach me quite easily!

A formidable 'double' if ever there was one and above all a formidable rescue of a season that had been catastrophic until then. The fact remains that we are, on the subject of this double podium, light years away from the contingent of French drivers in F1 at the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s; a Frenchman in the points (first 6!) at EVERY GP between September 78 and March 82, and between 1978 and 1986 inclusive out of 139 GPs only 11 without a French driver in the points and an exceptional result: the 1982 French GP where Arnoux, Prost, Pironi and Tambay shared the first 4 places!!

14 laps led by Ocon during a Grand Prix in 2024 against only one for Perez while Verstappen was flying on water! Hello Christian and Helmooout, when are you deciding to stop the ridiculous ordeal of TexMex? What do you think about it, the anvil? Alpine (nowhere at the start of the season) did better than the second Red Bull which also finished behind the 2 Ridiculous Bulls of the sister team?
